OBJ-13 CHANDELIER

A sequence of suspended surfaces gives shape to the space between them, creating a delicate tension between materiality, light and void.

OBJ-13 brings together six sheets of copper in an inverted, suspended composition in which squares and circles, raw surfaces and polished reflections converge. Each sheet is transformed by the repeated gesture of a hammer, creating a circular concavity that emerges from its flat geometry. Through variations in scale and distance, these seemingly simple surfaces construct a three-dimensional form whose geometry fully reveals itself when viewed from below.

The contrast between the precise geometry of each polished circle and the irregular, unfinished copper surrounding it reveals two expressions of the same material: one preserving the accidental marks and imperfections of its making, the other transformed by hand into a reflective surface.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

OBJ-13 IS PRODUCED FROM RECYCLED COPPER IN COLLABORATION WITH MASTER ARTISANS IN SANTA CLARA DEL COBRE, MICHOACÁN. THE MATERIAL IS HEATED IN FIRE UNTIL IT BECOMES MALLEABLE, THEN SHAPED THROUGH CONTROLLED, REPETITIVE HAMMERING. RATHER THAN RELYING ON INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES, FORM DEVELOPS GRADUALLY THROUGH THIS MANUAL WORK, ALLOWING THE MATERIAL TO BE STRETCHED, COMPRESSED, AND STABILIZED BY HAND.

THE PIECE RETAINS THE TRACES OF THIS PROCESS—SUBTLE VARIATIONS, TONAL SHIFTS, AND SURFACE IRREGULARITIES—THAT REFLECT BOTH THE INTENSITY OF THE WORK AND THE NATURE OF THE MATERIAL ITSELF. ONCE THE RAW PIECE IS FORMED, IT IS TRANSPORTED TO VALLE DE CHALCO, ESTADO DE MÉXICO, WHERE FINAL ADJUSTMENTS, ASSEMBLY, AND FINISHING ARE COMPLETED.
